MONOGRAPH, LAYERED DIMENSIONS — 2025
Physical generative artwork
This physical generative artwork represents the next evolution of the Monograph algorithm. The two-dimensional modulations of the Monograph system, such as shape density and curvature, are extended along the depth axis, into three dimensions. This way, a dynamic, multi-layered and delicate structure is constructed, revealing new complexities.
Composed of three precisely laser-cut birch wood layers, each plane features distinct yet interrelated patterns. The delicate nature of this work is further emphasized by mounting the layers as invisibly as possible, making them appear as if they are floating. It invites viewers to explore its structure and transparent nature from multiple perspectives.
Light plays a crucial role in the visual experience of this piece. It is fascinating to see the work interact with varying lighting conditions, both artificial and natural. As the day progresses, shifting sunlight casts evolving shadows and highlights across the intricate patterns, continuously transforming the artwork's appearance. This responsive interplay of light and shadow connects and anchors the artwork to its surroundings, making it feel like an extension of the space rather than a static object.
