DENDRITES — 2023
Plotted generative artworks / NFT
‘Dendrites’ is a collection of 20 unique designs that are available both as hi-res NFTs and physical, plotted artworks. The physical pieces are plotted with black archival ink on A2 sized, 220 gsm acid-free quality paper. The craftsmanship of the plotting process adds a tactile quality due to the physical application of ink onto the paper. Slight variations can occur in each piece due to factors like ink flow, paper quality, and environmental conditions. This means that each plotted artwork has its own unique characteristics.
The 20 pieces that make up this collection are carefully curated by me. So instead of tweaking all possible parameter ranges, as you do in a long-form series, I exposed the parameters through a graphical user interface. This allowed me to play around and create numerous variations and export a selection.
‘Dendrites’ refers to the branching phenomenon that appears in both neurology and material science. I have been working with a line intersection algorithm for more than a year and ‘Dendrites’ is the latest output from this creative journey. In this collection, not a single line is allowed to cross another one, a constraint that becomes an aesthetic in itself. By modulating the angles of the generated lines, a blend of natural forms and artificial constructs emerges. In this series, I want to take the viewer on a visual journey ranging from mathematical brutalism to delicate biological patterns, sometimes present in the same design.
